There is no shortage of apps available to your average Smart Phone user, but finding the right ones to help you with your day to day problems can be daunting. This blog series will explore some of the better free apps available that have the potential to facilitate different aspects of your life.

Map My Walk

Before I moved in with my husband, I lived with a couple of friends of mine. We three ended up with a nightly routine of taking their dog for a long walk after dinner, just chatting and enjoying strolling along. Eventually, I began using Map My Walk while we walked, and we were really surprised to see that our leisurely, meandering stroll around the neighbourhood was usually almost 2 miles worth of walking! We had a lot of fun with the app- sometimes trying to create shapes with our path, often just trying to see if we could beat our previous record. The app is free, pretty easy to use, and gives you a lot of information- like your speed and an estimate of the amount of calories you burn. I admit I don’t use Map My Walk as much as I used to in those days, but it’s still a really nice, free app to have on your phone. I like that it inspired us to walk more, to beat our previous speed, and overall it was just nice to see that we were making progress.
